they've patented their affiliate program. that's where you send someone
to amazon through a link on your site and you get a cut of whatever the
person buys. now in the real world, this is usually called a commission
or a referral fee. but of course the us patent office in another
display of the idiocy of government institutions (and you really trust
these people to be snooping your private lives??? will you ever
learn???) allows this obviously bogus patent to go through. now if
amazon made just a penny off over every affiliate program in the world
they'd make tons of money. i suspect this was part of their business
plan.
now in the past, i've always given amazon the benefit of the doubt but
now they've crossed the line of using bogus patents to extort money from
legitimate "above ground" businesses, i view them as desparate,
depraved, immoral, and pathetic. this is no company of the future.
they're just a bunch of thugs and scammers if you ask me.
